Scanning for radioactive sources - Bertin Medical Waste

    Scanning for radioactive sources

Biomedical waste can be a source of radioactivity, as radioactive sources are used during medical treatments. Scanning for these sources within batches of biomedical waste is essential for locating at-risk waste.

The majority of hospital waste contains radioactive sources. When biomedical waste is being transported and treated, the operator must be able to detect abnormal radioactivity and locate the source of radiation.

As radioactivity detection gantries cannot locate the source within loads particularly of waste, the MiniTRACE CSDF and the RadTRACE can however provide a precise location for the radioactive source. This allows the operator to isolate the source of radiation quickly and limit contamination of both workers and the environment.
